Wedding planning is better with a little help. Billions actress Malin Akerman opened up about her surprise engagement to musician Jack Donnelly while chatting with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on Monday, April 9.
“I found a man,” the 27 Dresses star shared. “A really good man… He’s actually my youngest sister’s boyfriend’s friend from drum school in England. I know, wrap your head around that. I’ve known him for the past four years, but I didn’t see him.”
All that changed recently. “All of a sudden, he came back from England a year ago, and I was like, ‘Wow, have you always been this cute?’” Akerman joked. “He was brilliant with my son, and that was it.”
Prior to meeting Donnelly, Akerman was married to ex Roberto Zincone, with whom she shares an adorable baby boy named Sebastian. The couple separated in December 2013 after seven months of marriage.
The couple got engaged in October 2017. “You try to explain to a four-and-a-half year old that you’re getting married, and what an engagement is,” Akerman mused. “And he jumped up on the couch and went, ‘Yay, we’re getting married!’”

The wedding planning, meanwhile, has been a sweet process for the future family of three. “We showed him pictures of where we were thinking of getting married,” she said, “and he saw a picture, and there’s a bunch of cupcakes on the dessert table, and he goes, ‘Oh I can’t wait for our wedding. I can eat cupcakes before dinner, right?”
