Derek Hough is still recovering from his sister Julianne Hough’s wedding–because it was that great.
“I could write a novel about that week,” the bride’s brother told E! News about the whirlwind wedding week. “Every moment of every day was planned to perfection.”
The Dancing With the Stars professional, 32, described the entire sequence of events as effortless. “It was like [we were] transported to another time,” he said. “I literally was like, ‘I’m just going to elope in Vegas, because I’m never gonna be able to compete with this amazing wedding…’ Or Julianne’s definitely planning whatever I’m doing.”
The Nashville alum says Julianne, 28, has found the love of her life. “He’s just a great guy,” he said of new brother-in-law, NHL player Brooks Laich. “I’ve known Julianne my whole life. I’ve seen every phase she’s gone through. I’ve seen all the different versions of herself trying to figure out who she is, and by far this is the best version of her and it’s because of him. He’s definitely brought that out of her. I’m so happy for them.”
Derek, who just wrapped the Move Beyond tour with Julianne, said that the same-day weddings overlapping with fellow DWTS pros Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were “completely by accident.”
It turns out that July 8 was a popular day overall. “Actually, one of Brooks’ really great friends also got married on the exact same day,” he shared. “That’s just the day of love.”
The Hairspray Live actor previously stated that he’d like to be married with children within five years, and apparently that’s still the plan. “I think it better be! I don’t wanna be an old grandpa when I start having kids,” he joked.
The subject of marriage has yet to come up between Derek and his girlfriend, Hayley Erbert, but he’s quick to admit that Julianne’s wedding inspired him. He concluded: “It’s not something we really talk about, but it was a wonderful week to be with somebody and experience love.”
