“We actually got married right across the street from our house,” Bell, 31, told James Corden on the Late Late Show. “I literally woke up in my own bed and walked across the street, and we had our ceremony.”
Mara previously told Corden that Bell was slightly more invested in the planning process, which the actor corroborated on Monday, January 8. “I do have an opinion, yes,” he said on the show. “We had a lovely wedding. It was very small and intimate. There were only 60-70 people there.”
The hardest portion of planning was securing a venue for obvious reasons. “We were trying to find a location to do it, which was tricky,” he acknowledged.
“We happened to live across the street from this very beautiful, old house,” he continued. “When we couldn’t find anything we just asked the woman who owns the house across the street, ‘Do you mind if we do it there?’ And she was like, ‘Yes.’”
The property features several small houses in the backyard. “There’s so many people who get married there,” Bell added. “We walked across the street and then when it was done, we spent the night on that property and we crossed the street and came home.”
The two now walk out from their home daily and see the very spot where they were married. “Which is beautiful,” he concluded.
Mara’s rep confirmed to The Knot that the House of Cards actress was engaged to Bell in January 2017. Seven months later, they married.
