That’s Mrs. America to you. Former Miss America Betty Cantrell is officially married to Spencer Maxwell, she tells The Knot in an exclusive announcement. The bride and groom exchanged vows on Friday, April 13, before 350 guests in Macon, Georgia.
“Becoming Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell is all we have wanted since we met each other,” says Cantrell, who was crowned Miss America in 2016. “Life is short and all that really matters to us is faith, hope and love.”
The couple’s ceremony was held at the bride’s hometown church, the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Macon. “I have faith in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I am completely filled with hope for the future,” says the bride. “Becoming Spencer’s wife and calling him ‘my husband’ makes me the happiest woman in the world.”
Cantrell, 23, wore a wedding dress by Eve of Milady, which she describes as “absolutely the most beautiful dress I’ve ever worn.” The bride found the piece inside Atlanta bridal salon Brides By Lori.
When it came her wedding day aesthetic, Cantrell enlisted her Miss America family to help out. Tour manager Liz Brown planned and designed the entire nuptials from start to finish. Passion Roses, a longtime partner of the Miss America organization, was tasked with florals for the wedding day. “When they heard that I was getting married, they wanted to be a part of the other biggest day in my life,” Cantrell adds.
Ashah Smith of Ashah Photography documented the couple’s ceremony and reception. “I grew up on a 675-acre farm in the middle of rural Georgia,” Cantrell muses. “And I knew that I wanted my wedding to reflect that rustic side of my upbringing, as well as the sophisticated, elegant side of me.”
