A bachelor no more. Nick Viall and his fiance, Vanessa Grimaldi, made their first public appearance as an engaged couple on the After the Final Rose special following the Bachelor finale last Monday, March 13. The next morning–after the dust slightly settled–the pair opened up to The Knot and other reporters about their plans for the future.

Their Future Wedding

“I don’t think we have a set date,” Viall, 36, said of their future plans. “I think it is more about our relationship and how it progresses. We’re just being realistic about our relationship and things that we’re most looking forward to or the things that we [haven’t had] an opportunity to do yet… those simple things, like [walking] together in public [and] going to the grocery store.”

The pair is well-aware that their relationship is unconventional. “We’re not a couple that [knew] each other for a year before we got engaged,” Viall explained. ” So, we’re going to walk before we run, so to speak.”

Their Home

Grimaldi, 29, a Montreal native, is currently living with Viall in Los Angeles, as the former Bachelor will be among the celebrities competing on Dancing With the Stars beginning Monday, March 20. Grimaldi shared that she’s residing in California to cheer on her fiance. “After Dancing with the Stars, yes, L.A. for the foreseeable future will be where we call home,” Viall added.

Grimaldi has a close-knit family, and she enjoyed her work as a special education teacher in Canada. Since Moving to the U.S., she’s channeled her energy and passion into a new project: A charity to help people living with learning disabilities. “I’m bringing a part of my life back in Montreal to my new life here in the States,” she shared.

Although Viall is anxious to return to Montreal, his busy schedule hasn’t allowed for a visit since the duo got engaged. “I haven’t had the pleasure of being back to Montreal since my hometown date,” he explained. “But we did have one of our happy couple sneak-aways in Toronto, and for 10 days we were [there]. I certainly can’t wait to get back to Montreal. As soon as we have an opportunity to go as a couple, that’s something that we are excited about doing.”

Their Careers

Viall, a former software salesman, is excited to launch The Polished Gent, a new online men’s grooming company. “That, other than my relationship with Vanessa, in terms of career-wise, will be my biggest focus going forward,” he revealed.

Their Daily Routines

There have been plenty of surprises since the lovebirds got engaged. “His cooking skills really surprised me.  He’s really good in the kitchen,” Grimaldi shared. “He also snores when he’s very tired. And he’s been working really hard doing his choreography with Peta [Murgatroyd] for Dancing. And I’m not a big morning person, but Nick is a very big morning person.  So that’s one thing we’re very different on.”

Viall and Grimaldi have managed to compromise when it comes to their morning routine. “I sleep in and he cooks breakfast, and he comes in with bacon for me in bed, so I’m not complaining,” Grimaldi said.

The couple shared that open communication is key in their relationship, as well a shift in priorities. “We’re going to give it our best shot, and we’re going to treat each other with respect,” Viall explained. ” We’re going to put each other first. And we’re going to do everything we should do to make this work.”

Season 24 of Dancing With the Stars premieres Monday, March 20, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
