One triumphant football player dropped to his knee after winning the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, January 8—and it was so that he could propose.
Moments after Alabama clinched the 2018 championship, offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman—also a team captain—continued the celebration by asking girlfriend Nikki Hegstetter to say “yes.”
The SEC Network captured the sweet moment of Bozeman looking up to his surprised girlfriend on the field as bystanders spectated from afar. Hegstetter, a former Alabama basketball player, apparently reacted to Bozeman’s proposal with an immediate, “Oh my God. Thank God.”

According to Bozeman, the two had discussed an engagement, but she had no idea it was coming so soon. The ‘Bama football player said his plan to propose would’ve been foiled by a loss—but thankfully they won. “I was thinking how I’d do it,” he told AL.com, “but I completely left my mind, and I just went for it.”
