Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky says Zika disrupted her wedding plans. The season 6 franchise lead, who’s currently pregnant and expecting her first child with fiance Kevin Manno, tells The Knot in an exclusive interview about what happened and what their plans are now that she’s eight months along in her expectancy.

“Originally, we planned the whole wedding in Mexico,” Fedotowsky, 31, shares. “We were super excited. We found the most amazing location and villa that would allow our entire family to stay with us. Then, all the news broke about the Zika virus and we had to cancel.”

The couple, who got engaged in September 2015, was understandably upset. “It was such a huge disappointment,” Fedotowsky tells The Knot. “Even though we won’t be pregnant when we get married, we just didn’t think it was fair to ask our guests to travel to a location with active Zika virus transmissions … Most of our friends are in ‘baby mode,’ and that just wasn’t a fair ask.”

Then, their second set of plans fell through. “We actually also planned a wedding in California for January 2016, and we ended up pushing that back too because we found out I was pregnant,” says the Ali Luvs blogger, who adds that the news “wasn’t a surprise” since she and Manno were trying for a baby. “Could we have kept the date? Sure. But I like to celebrate and celebrate with champagne!”

She laughs and adds, “I want to be able to let loose and completely enjoy myself at my wedding. I didn’t know how pregnancy would affect me so I didn’t want to risk feeling crappy on my wedding day. It’s a good thing we didn’t get married then because I was so sick at the beginning of my pregnancy. It would have been a rough night for me.”

Instead, the couple hit the reset button with wedding planning. “I don’t really know anything yet!” Fedotowsky tells us. “I’m honestly not a great party planner and I’m just not the type to spend a bunch of time trying to find ways to make our wedding unique. It’s not that important to me to have a ‘unique’ wedding. Don’t get me wrong: I want it to be beautiful, but I don’t feel the need to go out of my way to be different.”

Thankfully, Fedotowsky — who’s expecting a baby girl — has found the perfect someone to orchestrate the day. “I’m working with an incredible event planner extraordinaire: Leila Lewis from Be Inspired PR,” says the former reality star. “I know she is going to make our big day absolutely perfect! She did my baby shower and it was so incredible! I decided to put everything in her hands because I’m about to become a mom and all my energy is focused on that right now.”

And don’t expect her to televise her wedding like some of her Bachelor nation peers. “No one has asked us to get married on live TV, but I don’t think we would do that,” she tells The Knot. “It seems too stressful to me. Kevin and I have both done enough live television to know that so many things can go wrong!”

Her requests for her wedding are in fact, sweet and simple. “We just want to celebrate our love with all the people that matter most to us. I don’t need to know any of the details, I just want to show up and marry my best friend,” Fedotowsky says. “[I was also told] to make sure the food and music is good. Oh, and to have an open bar!”
