Newlywed Alison Brie was so stunned by Dave Franco’s marriage proposal that she didn’t initially believe him. The Glow actress recalled the memorable moment this week while chatting with Larry King.
Although Brie, 34, was in long-term relationships previously, she had never received a “real” proposal. The actress said Franco asked her to marry him three years into dating, while they were at scenic Big Sur in California.
“I was so shocked that I actually burst out laughing,” she told the host. “I asked him a number of times if he was being serious before saying yes.”
Brie then made Franco wait until she accepted his proposal. Eventually, she said yes and stepped out with her rose gold engagement ring in August 2015. The couple, who married in super-secret ceremony this past March, first met at the annual Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans back in 2011.
Franco, 32, later revealed the moment he fell for the Mad Men actress. “At one point I was the single guy who had two 17 pound cats. That’s not the most enticing thing for most girls,” the 21 Jump Street actor told late night host James Corden. “I went up to her and was like, ‘I know we’re not officially living together but can I move my cats into your place?’ She was up for it, and I think that was the moment I knew I would marry this woman!”
Brie never dreamed of walking down the aisle. “I’m not very bridal, instinctually,” she said in a separate interview with Yahoo! “Marriage never really interested me, I guess because I was very focused on my work. I wasn’t sure if I really saw the point to it.”
Luckily, falling in love with Franco changed the actress’ mind. “I just met that person that I was like, ‘Well, I’m really in love with you and would like to grow old with you,”” she concluded. “I actually think it’s much more romantic when two people are like, ‘Oh, I could go either way on marriage, but I want to marry you.'”
