If there were a magic formula for marital success, Allison Holker and Stephen “tWitch Boss” have found it: in the form of some pretty simple ingredients.
“The key to a lasting relationship is making sure you remember that you are the only one that can make yourself 100 percent happy,” Holker, 29, tells The Knot. “And to have patience and communication—you and your partner will have different highs and lows and it’s so important to be supportive during those time. Also, making sure to have fun and enjoy it!”
Agrees Boss, 35, “Patience is key—patience with one another. You will each go through changes as a couple and it’s important to keep relearning and growing together.”
The So You Think You Can Dance alums, who wed in December 2013, will co-host Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings: Holiday Magic special Monday night, and showcasing love has them reminiscing about their own big day.
“Walking down the aisle was absolutely magical,” Holker says. “I walked down from a second level through the guests and I was able to see everyone’s faces and have a moment to remember good moments with each of them. Seeing Stephen at the end of the aisle … he was crying and his smile was so big, I knew I was making the right choice. Saying our vows was amazing. It felt like we were on a cloud by ourselves for that moment.”
On the Freeform special, the pair will take viewers behind the scenes at special weddings and engagements that take place at Disney destinations. One surprise in particular had both Holker and Boss in tears. “Get your tissues ready!” Boss tells us.
As for sage advice that they might have for newlyweds and newlyweds-to-be about the big day itself, Boss says involvement is crucial.
“Word to the wise, fellas: the phrase ‘I don’t care’ can quickly turn your fairytale into a nightmare,” he says. “Maybe think about it like this, your wedding will be one of the most significant days for the both of you. So enjoy the process of putting that special day together. I still have vivid memories of the jokes we shared when putting together seating charts, choosing what the program looked like, etc etc. Remember to do what you can to bring some fun and light to it!”
