Oh my, oh Mykonos! Ana Beatriz Barros, who married businessman Karim El Chiaty this weekend, opens up to The Knot in an exclusive new interview about her gorgeous destination wedding, where fellow Victoria’s Secret models Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana served as bridesmaids.
“It was exciting,” Barros says of the planning process. “I got to spend a lot of time with my friends and family while executing the details. Every aspect — from picking the dress to cake design — was exciting since the final result was me marrying the love of my life.”
Though she loves her husband for many reasons, the enamored Brazilian native tells The Knot what she admires most about the art collector. “Karim is the most generous and kind person that I have ever met,” muses the Sports Illustrated bombshell. The couple, who first met at a mutual friend’s party in NYC, dated for three years before he proposed. On Friday, July 8, they exchanged vows overlooking the Aegean Sea on the gorgeous isle of Mykonos.
“From an early age, Karim has been going to Mykonos for his family vacations, and has continued this tradition with me,” Barros tells The Knot. “We could not think of a better place to tie the knot then at the island that brings us so much joy and wonderful memories. We love the casual relaxed vibe [along with the] unbelievable views, great food and understated elegance. We created rustic, boho chic style wedding ceremony that took place on the beach with stunning views of the Aegean Sea in the background.”
For the occasion, the bride looked resplendent in a custom Valentino gown — a sheer design featuring dainty bands of lace and an elaborate train.
“I wanted something that was elegant and timeless — that would be in style event 20 years from now,” explains Barros. “Our wedding was outside by the water so I wanted something that was airy and light and goes well with our relaxed, rustic décor of the wedding. One of my first modeling jobs was for Valentino and I love the lace details that he does for wedding dresses.”
Accompanying Barros and her husband at the altar were her 10 beautiful bridesmaids, Fontana, Ambrosio, Jaisa Chiminazzo, Renata Maciel, Sabrina Miller, Fernanda Motta, Cassia Lara, her sisters Malu Barros and Patricia Barros, and her newest sister, Tania El Chiaty.
“I am fortunate to have so many amazing friends and family members, so I had 10,” she says. “All of my girlfriends are close friends and we have been through so much together. No matter what we are always there for each other. I am truly blessed.”
The couple also closely involved their parents to keep to tradition. “Both of us are also very family-oriented,” she tells The Knot. “So our parents, Hamid and Dora El Chiaty and Reinato and Sonia Barros, along with our siblings were incorporated into as many aspects of the wedding as possible.”
“We definitely couldn’t have created such a beautiful and emotional wedding without them,” Barros concludes. “They are our biggest support.”
