We didn’t see this coming! Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) returned for Arrow‘s 100th episode during night 3 of the CW’s DC Crossover week on Wednesday, November 30. Viewers learned that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) would have married his ex-girlfriend had he never boarded the Queen’s Gambit.

The milestone episode included more unexpected events. Past characters were resurrected, including Laurel and her sister, Sara (Caity Lotz), along with Oliver’s father, Robert (Jamey Sheridan).

It didn’t take long for Oliver to realize that the series of events might be too good to be true. The alternate reality held clues that things might not be as they seemed, and Oliver missed his wedding rehearsal as he tried to make sense of the situation.

On their wedding day, Oliver breaks tradition and finds Laurel in her wedding dress. After asking Sara to leave him alone with his bride, Oliver begs Laurel to marry him immediately. He wants to elope rather than waiting to wed in front of their guests.

“I don’t know what’s going on with me right now; I just know that I want to be with you as quickly as humanly possible,” Oliver says in desperation.

“What is going on with you?” Laurel asks.

“Last night, something reminded me that I have everything,” he replied. “I don’t wanna give it up. I’m afraid that I’m gonna give it up.”

Laurel reminds Oliver that they have over 200 guests waiting, and his parents have “spent a fortune.” Oliver tells her that the only thing he’s sure of is his love for her, and he’ll work every day to be the man she fell in love with.

Later, Oliver comes to the conclusion that he is part of a “shared hallucination.” Oliver and Sara explain to Thea (Willa Holland) that this isn’t real life; it’s a faux reality. He then finds Laurel to tell her he has to leave.

“The man you fell in love with… That’s not me,” Oliver tells Laurel. “I never deserved that love. You always deserved better.”

Lauren begs him to stay, but Oliver reluctantly walks away.

Arrow’s mid-season finale airs next Wednesday, December 7, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW
