First comes love, then comes office! ABC’s latest Bachelor Ben Higgins is not only smitten with his fiancee, Lauren Bushnell, but it seems he’s falling for politics too.
The reality heartthrob, 28, who won over America as ABC’s Season 20 Bachelor, informed The Colorado Independent that he’s “seriously considering” running for a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives.
The Denver-based software salesman told the paper that he’s “definitely not a politician,” but believes he can make an impact. Higgins is first and foremost a philanthropist and activist who’s worked with his local community on charities like Humanity and Hope United Foundation. He also believes his financial services industry background will give him an edge in politics.
“Whatever lies ahead, love, grace, and hope are ideals that guide my life. I will take them with me into my next adventure,” Higgins expressed. “Lauren and I aren’t sure yet what that will be, but in terms of representing House District 4, Willie Pinkston is an amazing person and any decision I make regarding entering the race will be based on what is best for Willie, his family and for Lauren and me.”
The seat Higgins is interested in is currently held by Democrat Dan Pabon. If the Bachelor alum decides to run, the 4th district’s Republican nominee, Willie Pinkston, has said he will gladly drop out of the race due to business and family matters. This would then make Higgins the possible Republican opponent.
“He’s got name recognition,” Pinkston told the local outlet. “We’d love to support him since he wants to run and is capable.”
Bushnell has yet to address her fiance’s plans to run for office, but she moved to Denver following the season 20 finale. In the meantime, the bubbly airline stewardess has expressed that she wants a “normal life” with her future husband.
Bushnell frequently takes to Instagram to share sweet moments with Higgins, including a sweet Snapchat video this week of themselves utilizing the celeb-beloved puppy filter. Bushnell quoted a line from The Hangover to caption the moment. “My wolf pack…it grew by one. So there…there were two of us in the wolf pack…I was alone first in the pack and then Ben joined in later. #okdonequotingmovies #bye,” she wrote.
