Bachelor Nick Viall Says He Has “the Most Explosive Chemistry” With Rachel: Episode Recap

Bachelor(ABC/Mark Coffey) RACHEL, NICK VIALL

The showdown continues. Bachelor Nick Viall has been rocking the boat with his bachelorettes from the very beginning, and the latest episode of ABC’s hit reality series was no exception. Here, The Knot recaps the highlights from the January 30 episode.

Let’s Take This Outside

During a heated one-on-one conversation between Taylor and Corrine, Taylor explains that several of the women are questioning Corrine’s maturity. The discussion quickly goes south, and Corrine walks away to have a heart-to-heart with Nick.

When they sit down to chat, Corrine tells Nick that she and the other ladies have a problem with Taylor, and that Taylor is”rude and not here for the right reasons.” Nick thanks Corrine for her honesty and gives her a kiss. “Taylor definitely got what was coming to her,” Corrine says in the confessional. “It feels so good. I am the queen. I won. Hashtag winning. The Taylor ship has sailed.”

An Emotional Rose Ceremony

Nick tells Bachelor host Chris Harrison that taking the women to his hometown helped him connect with them. The mood is solemn when Nick walks into the mansion to begin the rose ceremony.

Whitney receives the first rose, followed by Danielle, Jasmine, and Rachel. Next, Jaimi, Josephine, and Vanessa receive roses. In the confessional, Taylor admits to being panicked that Nick will fall into Corrine’s “emotional manipulation.”

Alexis, Corrine, and Taylor receive the final three roses before Astrid and Sarah are sent home. Sarah is heartbroken.

Nick’s Announcement

After the rose ceremony, Nick tells the women that they’re jetting off to New Orleans.

When they arrive in Louisiana, the ladies settle into penthouse suites. Chris Harrison announces that there will be a one-on-one date, a group date, and a two-on-one date that week. Chris delivers the first date card, which reads: “Rachel, where have you beignet all my life?”

A Wildly Romantic One-on-One Date

On their date, Nick and Rachel explore the streets of New Orleans. In the confessional, Nick shares that his chemistry with Rachel is “the most explosive chemistry” he has with any of the women.

After enjoying beignets, Nick and Rachel dance in the streets and watch a concert together. That night, they have a romantic dinner, and Nick learns that Rachel’s father is a federal judge. Rachel is impressed by Nick’s sincerity and openness.

THE BACHELOR -"Episode 2105" - A vicious argument between Corinne and Taylor rages on just before the rose ceremony in Wisconsin. When the dust settles and the roses are all given out, two heartbroken women are sent home. However, for the remaining 13 bachelorettes, it's on to one of the great romantic cities in the United States: New Orleans. Nick's first one-on-one date in the Big Easy provides combustible chemistry as the couple sightsees, dances and goes to a Lolo concert. Ten bachelorettes join Nick for a thrill-a-thon as they visit an allegedly haunted plantation where a resident ghost makes her presence felt. Two arch rivals prepare to face off in the dreaded two-on-one date. Tensions are high as they head to NOLA's mystical bayou. Which woman is stranded in the swamp, and which gets the rose? The evening ends with another abrupt surprise for both Nick and his date, on "The Bachelor," MONDAY, JANUARY 30 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network. “I might be breaking rules here, but I’m super into you,” Nick tells Rachel. “I want you to know that, because I want you to feel confident.”

At the end of their date, Nick gives Rachel the date rose.

A Historic Group Date

Back at their hotel, the ladies receive the next date card. “Til death do us part,” the card reads. Josephine, Kristina, Alexis, Raven, Jaimi, Vanessa, Danielle M., Whitney, Jasmine, and Danielle L. will be joining Nick on the group date, which means Taylor and Corrine will be competing for Nick’s attention on the two-on-one date.

Nick meets his dates at a historic spot in Louisiana. Nick explains that the house is said to be one of the most haunted in the state. During a history lesson, the ladies learn that the property’s main ghost is a young girl. While touring the house, the women feel a strange energy. When Nick pulls out a Ouija board, Vanessa refuses to “mess around with the spiritual world.”

During an intimate chat, Raven tells Nick she’s falling in love with him. At the end of the night, Nick gives Danielle M. the date rose.

A Dramatic Two-on-One Date

The final date card of the week arrives. “Taylor and Corrine, meet me in the bayou,” it reads.

When the date begins, Nick, Taylor, and Corrine take a boat ride to a voodoo ceremony. They are offered tarot readings, but the reader feels tension, and says she needs to read the ladies separately.

During Taylor’s reading, the reader encourages her not to engage with the negative person near her (Corrine). Meanwhile, Corrine tells Nick that Taylor emotionally attacked her. “I said what I needed to say,” Corrine says later in the confessional. “I was very open and honest with him about my feelings.”

The reader picks up on Corrine’s negative energy, and when she asks if Corrine has any questions for her, Corrine asks for a voodoo doll, which the reader gives her.

During their one-on-one time, Nick tells Taylor that Corrine described her as a bully. Taylor is relieved that Nick was surprised by Corrine’s accusations.

Later, Taylor confronts Corrine, but Corrine isn’t phased. When Nick returns, he offers the date rose to Corrine, and Taylor is visibly deflated.

“I’m glad the negative energy is gone,” Corrine tells Nick over dinner. “I just feel really good that it didn’t turn into something ugly.”

The Twist

Just as Nick and Corrine are getting cozy, Taylor returns to speak her truth.
