Get ready for waterworks. Longtime Bachelor host Chris Harrison revealed this week that Nick Viall will shed man tears on the upcoming season 21 of The Bachelor.

In a preview from an upcoming interview with Mario Lopez, Harrison uses Bachelor history to illustrate Viall’s fragile emotional state as he now picks and chooses who gets the roses.

“I will say — a little inside baseball because we’re in the middle of taping right now — he hit a little low point, as all of the Bachelors do,” Harrison said in the clip exclusively revealed by Us Weekly. “You kind of reach this emotional bottom where you get stripped down. If you know what a Mesnick is, I will let you know that he pulled a full Mesnick. There will be man tears on this season for sure.”

Harrison’s reference to Mesnick is, of course, from when the season 13 Bachelor memorably sobbed while making one particularly daunting choice. At the time, the emotionally-taxing decision resulted in him sending his runner-up, Molly Malaney, home. Mesnick, who was still in love with Malaney during his After the Final Rose special in March 2009, memorably changed his mind and broke up with his winner, Melissa Rycroft, on national television. Mesnick and Malaney eventually got married in February 2010, and they now share two kids. Rycroft also found love with Tye Strickland.

On Lopez’s show, which will air on Wednesday, November 2, Harrison again addressed some concerns about Viall becoming the next Bachelor.

“I know people were a little reluctant, and they’re giving him a hard time,” the host expressed. “I hope those people will just trust that we know what we’ve been doing over 15 years. He’s a good man. He’s a really good guy. And he’s doing a good job.”

ABC also announced on Tuesday, November 1, that Viall’s highly-anticipated season of The Bachelor has a premiere date. Mark those calendars for the new year. The Bachelor season 21 will debut on Monday, January 2.
