Colton Underwood will no doubt be wearing his emotions on his sleeve for the upcoming season of The Bachelor, if the newly-released trailer is any indication. In season 23 of the hit ABC dating show, the 26-year-old former NFL player will meet a group of beautiful women looking to win his heart—and possibly, based on the trailer, to win something else.
In the 90-second trailer, Underwood is first introduced to the women in the most eye-popping way: while showering outdoors, seemingly oblivious to his admirers’ oohs and ahhs. “He is literally like a chiseled god to me,” says one contestant.
But Underwood, for all his good looks and impressive physique, reminds viewers that he’s looking for something much deeper than a physical connection. “I am a virgin,” he says at one point during the trailer. “But, that’s just a small part of who I am. I’m here to fall in love, so hopefully, by the end of this, I’m down on one knee.”
At one point, host Chris Harrison points out Underwood’s virginity for extra emphasis, saying, “You could lose your virginity this week,” to which Underwood responds, “Sexual intimacy is a big part of any relationship.”
Based on the trailer, and past Bachelor history, however, there will undoubtedly be some drama. The clip shows a number of women in tears, and even shows one woman berating another for scaring Underwood so badly that she possibly “ruin[ed] potential relationships.”
Underwood is shown crying as well, at one point hugging one contestant closely and whispering, “I’m scared.” Later on in the trailer, he’s shown walking off set and jumping over a fence as Harrison tries to get him to come back.
“Every time I put myself out there I get rejected,” Underwood says at another point, hinting that he’ll be shot down at some point during the season. Adding fuel to the fire, one contestant is filmed saying, “I can’t accept a proposal.”
Underwood was previously a contestant on Becca Kufrin’s season, and went on to take part in this summer’s Bachelor in Paradise. His season of The Bachelor will premiere January 7 on ABC.
