It poured in Argentina. The Bachelorette’s Derek Peth, who was eliminated during a two-on-one date on the show’s latest episode, defended his emotional exit via Twitter on Monday, June 27.

Both Derek and his fellow suitor Chase McNally were selected to compete in the high-stakes tango date, in which one person heads home. Both men spent quality alone time with JoJo Fletcher — and it seemed as if Derek had secured the rose — but the Season 12 Bachelorette ultimately sent the blue-eyed, Jim Halpert-look-alike packing.

In one of the most memorable exits from this season, editors cut back and forth between Derek crying in the car and JoJo and Chase dancing to “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.”

Thankfully, Derek had a sense of humor about the entire sequence.

However, one comment from a celebrity Bachelor super-fan did not make Derek happy. Jenny McCarthy tweeted that she found the entire situation funny — and her remark was received with some sass.

Derek wasn’t the only suitor to head home from Argentina on Monday. JoJo also said goodbye to beloved contestant, Nashville-based radio DJ Wells Adams (and at least he scored a kiss before his departure). Tune in to The Bachelorette on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
