She’s moving on. The next Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay, joined Ellen DeGeneres on Friday, February 24, and hinted that her exit from Nick Viall’s ongoing season of The Bachelor was slightly dramatic.

ABC announced Lindsay—the first-ever black lead to be featured in the franchise in 15 years—as the season 13 Bachelorette last Monday. The Dallas-based lawyer, who received Viall’s first impression rose, still remains in the running after hometown dates. Devoted fans of the reality show were incensed because producers prematurely spoiled the current season with the announcement.

“I’m really shocked,” DeGeneres noted to Lindsay on Friday. “I thought that you and Nick would end up together… You didn’t leave on your own?”

“He let me go,” Lindsay replied. “I was shocked too. I really thought Nick and I had a strong connection, and I was pretty heartbroken when it happened… but I’ve moved on since then.”

She added that the split took place about three months ago. “It’s not the typical way that I’d like to date a man. It was something different for me to try,” she shared. “I really had a connection with Nick and I was shocked.”

Lindsay then added, “His loss.”

The exact moment still remains unknown, but Viall wrote last Monday, February 13, that he was equally torn when he sent her home. “Bachelor Nation doesn’t know how it all goes down yet, but as you’ll surely see saying goodbye to Rachel was one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life,” he expressed. “I have met very few people who possess as much beauty, grace, and charisma as Rachel and after hearing that she’ll be the next Bachelorette I couldn’t be more excited.”

In the interim, Lindsay went back to work after she was sent home. “I just finished a trial a couple weeks ago,” she noted. “I do civil defense litigation so I’m a trial attorney.”

Filming for Lindsay’s season will begin in March. Chris Harrison previously explained that producers broke from tradition and made the early announcement to help gather the best candidates for Rachel, who will now be tasked with handing out the roses. “I really don’t have a physical type but a great smile,” she told DeGeneres on Friday. “I’m looking for a  guy who can make me laugh, who knows exactly what he wants, is ambitious… I’m ready to start a family.”

Finally, how exactly does she feel about the current season villain? “I love Corinne,” she replied. “Unfortunately you get to see some sides of Corinne. I got to see all sides living with her.”
