Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay officially returned to reality television on Monday, May 22, and one secret from season 13 of the smash ABC franchise is already out: Yes, she’s engaged! While the Dallas-based attorney is unable to reveal the recipient of the final rose, Lindsay couldn’t resist from sharing more details about her fiancé in a new interview.
“I’m going to be a whole other level of giddy when I can tell the world who it is,” Lindsay told The Hollywood Reporter this week. But for now, all she can do is tease his identity: “Confident, direct, self-aware, a sense of humor, great smile, knows what he wants as far as the same things that I want—a marriage and a family,” she continued. “Also that he likes sports—that’s a big deal for me. He doesn’t need to play them, but needs to like them. And someone with good integrity.”
It’s not that easy to figure him out though. “You have to follow along on the journey. It’s really exciting,” she told GMA on Monday of her fiancé. “You won’t be able to tell.”
It’s been less than two weeks since Lindsay selected the winner, and the relationship has been nothing but magic since then. “We’re on cloud nine about being engaged, so we’re just talking about how great it is to be engaged and what comes next,” she added to THR. “We are two happy little birds.”
However, there will be some challenges in the months ahead. First, the couple will need to maintain secrecy during their newfound engagement, and second, he will watch her date other men on the show. Traditionally, the latter portion has caused issues between couples.
“I wish I could break all the rules during this time, honestly,” Lindsay mused. “But I know that’s not possible, so it’s just important to keep an open line of communication. I don’t want to shy away of any questions that my fiancé has for me about the journey or about myself in general. I’m an open book and I feel that as long as I continue to do that, he’s a strong enough person to be able to handle it.”
He’s not alone this situation. “The same goes for me,” she added. “I’m throwing those questions out at him and it’s reflective of how we want our relationship to be moving forward and forever — just keeping it real and continuing to communicate with each other even when it’s hard.”
In a separate interview with The Knot and other reporters, Lindsay expressed her disbelief that she had found the perfect man on the show. “Every morning, I wake up and pinch myself and I keep asking myself, ‘Is this really happening?’” she said in the call. “It’s crazy. I mean, just to have my coworkers have faith in me, sign me up, believe that I can find love during next season… At times, I feel like I don’t even deserve this because it’s like I’m getting everything that I want. And I am getting my happy ending. It’s just such a surreal experience: That’s the best way for me to describe it. And I am totally humbled by it and I feel very blessed.”
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
