A memorable anniversary. It has been a full year since Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell met and fell in love on The Bachelor, and they’re celebrating their first year together by giving back to a woman in need. Here, The Knot highlights the unforgettable moments from the November 22 episode of Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?

Finding that Special Someone

Lauren asks her blog readers to nominate deserving individuals. While scrolling through nominees, she is moved by the story of  Ranya Kelly–a woman who has dedicated her life to helping wounded veterans, but has neglected her home in the process.

Ranya’s loved ones share stories of her giving spirit in a heartfelt video. They explain that Ranya’s dream is to build a greenhouse, which she’d use to grow fresh fruits and vegetables for veterans.

After Ben and Lauren decide to surprise Ranya with a home makeover, they enlist their friends to help with the renovation. Secret deodorant offers to sponsor the project.

Behind the Scenes

Although Ben and Lauren are spending their first anniversary renovating Ranya’s home, Ben secretly takes dance lessons so he can surprise his fiancee with a romantic evening. During his first lesson, Ben’s dance instructor is less than impressed with his moves.

An Emotional Surprise

Lauren is giddy with excitement as she and Ben arrive at Ranya’s house. When Ranya opens the door, she’s stunned, and tears immediately fill her eyes when Ben and Lauren offer to renovate her home. Her son–who is a veteran–inspired her to start her charity in the early 1990s.

Before Ben and Lauren begin the home makeover, they send Ranya off for a week at a spa.

Let the Renovation Begin!

Bachelor twins Haley and Emily Ferguson arrive to help with the home improvements. Along with Ben and Lauren’s friends and Ranya’s loved ones, they spring into action. Members of the armed forces show up to help with the makeover and to build a greenhouse for Ranya.

Ben is moved by Lauren’s desire to help someone in need. He believes the experience is bringing them closer together.

The Reveal

Ranya and her husband, Byron, are amazed when they see their home and the many people who helped with the renovation. Ranya is especially stunned when she sees her new greenhouse. Ben asks Ranya if she feels loved after the experience. “Yes, I feel loved,” Ranya replies.

Lauren’s Surprise

Later, Ben surprises Lauren with a huge light display in their back yard with their first initials in block letters and a massive heart between them. They share champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, and they talk about the highlights (and low points) of their first year. Ben shares that proposing to Lauren was the high point for him, while learning that life isn’t “easy breezy” was the most difficult part.

Lauren thanks Ben for staying with her and encouraging her when she needed him most. “I don’t know what I would do without you,” she tells him as her eyes well up with tears. Ben gives her the wing pin she once gave him, which he had transformed into a necklace with their initials on the front.

Ben’s dance lessons pay off when he asks Lauren to dance in their backyard. She’s impressed with his new moves.

In the confessional, Ben admits that he may have made a mistake calling off the wedding.

Sneak Peek

On the next episode, Ben and Lauren celebrate their bachelor/bachelorette party in Las Vegas, but their friends don’t know that Ben called off the wedding. Tune in for the next episode of Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? airing Tuesday, November 29, at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
