Got her looking not so crazy in love. Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles Lawson, revealed in a recent interview that her world-famous daughter wasn’t the biggest fan of her wedding dress.
Lawson appeared on the Today show on June 24, and discussed what it was like designing her daughter’s wedding gown when Bey married Jay Z in 2008.

“She was so sweet to let me do that,” Lawson noted to hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. “She came back later one day and she said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress.’ Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart.”
The dress details were kept secret until Beyonce revealed the look — a strapless, tiered gown featuring ruffles and an elaborate train — in her 2011 music video for “I Was Here.”
Lawson was featured in the clip adjusting the dress, while her beaming daughter showed off her gorgeous, makeup-free complexion on her wedding day. Other key moments from the video included Beyonce’s first meetings with Oprah, Nelson Mandela and other humanitarians, and that memorable moment when she announced her pregnancy at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
The world-famous Lemonade hitmaker, 34, later shared additional private footage from the wedding in 2011, during her joint On the Run world tour with her husband. The home videos also featured sweet clips of their daughter, Blue Ivy.
