No more of that Achy Breaky Heart! Billy Ray Cyrus joined Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on Today on Wednesday, June 1, and dished details about his famous daughter Miley Cyrus’ on-again engagement to Liam Hemsworth.
“Every time your daughter’s name comes up, at least in a magazine, it’s like, ‘She’s engaged. She’s gonna be engaged. She’s about to be engaged!’” Kotb, 51, noted to Cyrus. “What is she doing?”
Cyrus, 54, who’s starring on his own CMT series, Still the King, responded to the question with the chuckle. “Well, they’re really happy together right now,” he replied.
He also hinted at possibly playing a role in his daughter’s nuptials down the line. “They know if they need a preacher, they’ve found one,” Cyrus teased, joking about his new acting role. On Still the King, Cyrus is an imposter under the guise of a minister.
“You’re the guy?” Gifford asked, prompting Cyrus to reply: “Mmhmm.”
“All my kids love the show,” he continued. “It’s just a lot of fun. It’s a quirky comedy. Expect the unexpected.”
Hemsworth, 26, and Miley, 23, first got engaged in June 2012. They split in September 2013, and eventually rekindled their romance over New Year’s Eve 2016.
Just this past week, Hemsworth opened up to GQ Australia about the relationship. “Of course it was hard, man,” he told the mag of breaking off their engagement initially. “But we were both going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time — we both needed that.”
