In one incredibly romantic Friends-themed proposal caught on film, Mitesh Jadva surprises his his Friends fanatic girlfriend Anisha Patel with the sweetest “I’ll be there for you,” that she’s never going to forget.
Dreamt up by Jadva, 25, and arranged by a unique marriage proposal planning company based in London called The Proposers, Jadva wanted to create a proposal worthy of his girlfriend’s love of the sitcom starring Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt Leblanc.
When asked how big of a fan Patel, 23, was Jadva shared with The Knot, “MASSIVE fan! She could probably quote entire episodes by heart!” This girl knows her stuff! “In terms of watching Friends,” Jadva says, “its constant. I go to her house, it’s on the TV. She comes to mine, and first chance she get she changes the channel to Friends!”
It’s no wonder then that Jadva chose to highlight his girlfriend’s love of the show by bringing iconic pieces of the Friends set to their engagement! Nestled in the Red Cross Gardens in London was a mustard yellow couch and floor lamp replicating the ones that appear in the show’s opening credits. Surrounding the couch were sets of pillar candles and hundreds of twinkling fairy lights creating a stunning scene.
“The journey in the cab to the park is where the nerves really started to kick in,” Jadva explained. “Luckily, we got the only day that week that didn’t rain so we were just counting on the sun to go down on time.”
Making sure the timing was right for both the video and the ambiance created by the candles and fairy lights for Raul Stefanescu of The London Photographer, Jadva says he stalled the cab and was able to initiate the proposal at the perfect moment. “Getting close to the park I was in awe at how amazing everything looked!”
The Proposers, who have created over 625 unique proposals – some even including dressing cats up as waiters, abseiling into caves, and revving up James Bond-style speedboats – in their youthful three years, and had spent three months planning this proposal, had another surprise up their sleeves for Patel.
“When we took a seat and the singers came out Anisha shed a few tears and that’s when I knew I’d done my job right,” Jadva said. “If I managed to get the ‘happy tears.’” And he did! Jadva and The Proposers organized an acoustic rendition of the Friends theme song, “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts, to be sung by five West End singers, and as soon as they started, so did Patel’s tears.
“At first she was slightly confused as she thought she was going out for dinner,” The Proposers shared with The Knot, “but as soon as she realized what was going on, she was over the moon and began to cry – from happiness of course!”
After listening to the singers serenade for a moment, Jadva stood up, said a few words to Patel, and then got down on one knee to ask her hand in marriage.
“Nobody knows what I actually said to Anisha apart from us, and funnily enough I thought it would feel weird telling her why I loved her and why I wanted to marry her,” he said of their special moment in the park, “but when the moment came, the words came to me naturally. As cheesy as it sounds, seeing her smiling the whole way through made it all seem worth five years of waiting for the moment.”
After the proposal the two went straight to dinner at The Shard where the couple were seated under a spotlit table, Jadva shared, adding that the addition of Patel’s new diamond was a bit distracting!
“All Anisha could do was keep looking at her shiny ring! I honestly think I could’ve walked away from the table and she wouldn’t have realized!” The couple continued there celebrations well into the evening, meeting up with close friends and sharing the news.
As for their wedding, Jadva says, “As we will have an traditional Indian wedding it’s difficult to squeeze the theme in, although I will try to incorporate something into our reception party decorations.” How sweet is he?!
Overal, we’d say the Friends-themed proposal was a success thanks to Jadva’s unique idea and The Proposers execution, and Jadva thinks so too! “The Proposers brought everything to life and I couldn’t be happier,” he said of the group who have teamed up with Purely Diamonds to add even more oomph to their proposal-planning skills.
“The entire night she [Patel] kept telling me how overwhelming it was and how she was so happy she felt like it wasn’t actually happening,” Jadva added. “I’m just happy she liked it and now has a memory for life.”
As for the final word from The Proposers on making your engagement the best it can be? “Make it personalized. Create something that is both memorable and unique to you as a couple.” They certainly did both for Mitesh Jadva and Anisha Patel!
