It takes a very generous couple to help coordinate their friends’ proposal on their wedding day. But that’s exactly what bride and groom Shelby and Cody Henigman did when their groomsman Lauren Sussi came to them with the special request.
Sussi wanted to surprise his girlfriend, Marcie Matthews, with a proposal, and since Marcie was one of Shelby’s bridesmaids, he couldn’t think of anything more romantic than asking for her hand on the same day as the Henigman wedding—after all, they were dressed up and surrounded by mutual friends on the beach in North Carolina. Yep, sounds pretty perfect for a proposal.

The bride helped set the stage by prepping her girls for the bouquet toss, but instead of flinging her bouquet backward, she turned, handed the florals to Matthews and stepped aside so Sussi could pop the question.
“It still gives me goose bumps,” Sussi told local Kansas news station KAKE-TV about seeing the video of their engagement. “Every time that part comes up with the bouquet, I just start to lose it.”
