When high school sweethearts Dalton Mort and Jimmy Joe married, the couple had one particular non-negotiable: It was for their 2-year-old daughter, Ellora, to have a special role in the nuptials.
“I knew it was going to be a crazy day for her with tons of stuff to do,” Mort told BuzzFeed News on Friday, February 15. “She’s still pretty attached to me so I wanted her to be close.”
Mort and Joe knew that their daughter’s nap time would overlap with their Roman Catholic Mass ceremony. However, the parents wanted their baby girl to be closely as they exchanged their vows.
Throughout the day, Mort kept her daughter in a wrap. “It was actually easier to focus with her being there with me and tied down a little bit,” Mort explained to the outlet.
She ended up walking down the aisle with her daughter on her back. “I wanted her to be there for everything,” Mort explained, “because she’s just as much a part of our relationship.”
Even during the ceremony, Ellora was peaceful. “When we said our vows, I was holding her in my arms, which was great,” Mort told HuffPost.
Eventually, the peaceful, sweeping images taken by Laura Schaefer of Fire and Gold Photography went completely viral after they were posted to social media in February. “These pictures have gone crazy—I never expected that to happen,” the bride told BuzzFeed.
“Wearing Ellie incorporated her in their wedding in a special, unique and meaningful way,” Schaefer told HuffPost. “I was excited to capture photos of Dalton putting Ellie on while she was getting ready. It would be a unique twist on a bride putting on her veil, completing the bridal look.”
