Pass the lemonade! Newlywed bride Huma Mobin was forced to go on her honeymoon alone after her husband’s visa got rejected right before their departure, so she took photos without him — and the images have since gone viral. In an exclusive new interview, Mobin opens up to The Knot about the entire ordeal and how she felt once she returned home to new husband, Arsalaan Sever Butt.
“We planned a family trip with my in-laws and all four of us were supposed to go to Greece,” Mobin tells The Knot. “But my husband’s visa got rejected three days before we were supposed to leave. I couldn’t get a refund as it was so last-minute, so my husband insisted that I go without him — despite my many protests.”
The Pakistani couple, both 28, first met at a wedding in Lahore. “Little did we know, our brothers were best friends,” she says. Sadly, Mobin had to visit the beautiful Mediterranean country without her BFF.
“When I got there, I missed him terribly and cried my eyes out the first night,” the Outside Girl blogger recalls to The Knot. “But then, I decided to just make the best of it.”
At each major monument and scenic spot, Mobin hilariously posed with her outstretched arm and a cry face to express how much she was missing her other half. “The idea of the ‘phantom pose’ came to me from my husband, actually,” she tells us. “I made a whole series after my friends said it was amazing and funny over Whats App.”
The rest of the world thought so too. “It’s been so overwhelming. I can’t even wrap my head around it,” says Mobin, whose Facebook album — “I went to Greece without my husband and I missed him very much” — has over 600 shares. “I mean, in one day, I’ve been swarmed with messages and traffic on my page that my Facebook crashed several times … It’s terrific.”
After a husband-less honeymoon, Mobin describes what it was like to finally reunite with her love. “It was amazing,” she says. “We were both in tears and I was hitting him, saying, ‘Why did you let me go?!’”
She concludes: “I had fun, but it wasn’t at all the same without him there. I think we hugged for a good 20 minutes at the airport.”
