Matrimony for Megatron! Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson married his fiancee, Brittney McNorton, this past weekend in metro Detroit, Michigan.
Some of his teammates spoke out about the nuptials this week during a golf outing, where they spoke to the Detroit Free Press. “It was fun,” Matthew Stafford told the paper. “It was cool. Good time. I was happy for him.”
Days before the couple wed, their wedding registries were picked up by The Knot and other outlets. Though no Transformers items made the newlywed’s list (despite the groom’s nickname), some other ’80s icons did. Ahead of the release of the second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Johnson and McNorton listed swag from the popular cartoon series on the pricey list of items on their registry.
Stafford, however, had no idea what they got the couple as a gift. “Ask Kelly,” he told the paper of his wife. “She got on the registry.”
Another one of Johnson’s former teammates, Golden Tate, had a better idea of what they gifted the couple. “We got him something from their registry,” Tate. “It was something sophisticated. Like I don’t even know what it was.”
Tate’s fiancee, Elise Pollard, then chimed in. “It was some really nice,” she said. “Like bedding or something for their house.”
After nine seasons of playing with the Lions, Johnson retired this past March. Megatron is the franchise’s all-time leading receiver and the winner of the team’s prestigious Ed Block Courage Award.
He proposed to McNorton, who works for the Lions front office, last year in Baltimore. At the time, the two were in the city for an awards show when Johnson got down and one knee and proposed to his longtime love.
