When you know, you know! Cameron Diaz got candid about her love life during a recent Gwyneth Paltrow-moderated panel at the “In Goop Health” wellness summit in Culver City, California, on Saturday. The Charlie’s Angels actress, who married husband Benji Madden in January 2015, told the audience that she didn’t mind waiting to get married, because she hadn’t found the right person before then.
“I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband,” she said of why she didn’t get hitched until she was 42. “I had boyfriends before, and there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends.”
The Longevity Book author added that she knew she and Madden were meant to be because of how compatible they were.
“He’s just my partner in life, in everything,” she said. “I’ve never had anyone who supported me so much and gave me so much courage to be myself and to really explore myself. My husband has been able to show me what it’s like to … be an equal. And I’ve learned so much from him. I look at him every day and he inspires me. I feel so lucky.”
The pair exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at their Beverly Hills home after a whirlwind seven-month romance, and in an interview with Andy Cohen the following year, she said she wouldn’t have had it any other way.
“We got married in our living room in front of our friends,” Diaz told Cohen. “Had a little party in our backyard on the tennis court and yeah. Otherwise it would have been something else.”
On Saturday, the actress perhaps summed their love up best by comparing herself and the Good Charlotte singer to “two peas in a pod.”
“We’re both just weird enough for each other,” she said. “He’s my perfect little weirdo and I’m his perfect little weirdo.”
