If ever there were a year for love, this was it. In 2017, some of Hollywood’s biggest names—Mandy Moore, Brie Larson and Sophie Turner, to name a few—said a collective “yes!” to their loves’ proposals. But perhaps the most anticipated engagement of the year came right toward the end: that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, she of Suits fame. Check out which celebs got swept up in a romantic haze this year, and which weddings we’ll have to look forward to in 2018.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle
The royal lovebirds made things official with an announcement from the Clarence House on November 27. “His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month,” the statement reads. “Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.” The couple, who began dating quietly in July 2016, are set to wed in a much-anticipated wedding ceremony on May 19, 2018.
John Stamos & Caitlin McHugh
Before dropping a proverbial bomb on Full House fans that he will indeed be a father for the first time at age 54, John Stamos popped the question to girlfriend Caitlin McHugh in October. The actor didn’t just propose haphazardly, though: the former ER star created an entire short film comprised of Disney and Pixar films, with the final clip showing Sebastian in The Little Mermaid urging Stamos to “just ask the girl.”
Mandy Moore & Taylor Goldsmith
The singer, who famously likes to keep her personal life under wraps, couldn’t help showing off a little bling on the red carpet at Entertainment Weekly’s Pre-Emmy bash in West Hollywood in September. She and musician Taylor Goldsmith, who started dating in 2015, largely kept mum about their engagement, but in an interview with Shape magazine, Moore gushed about her future with her musician beau. “My man and I found a house and are doing renovations,” she said. “When we move, I’ll feel like I finally have a place to hang my hat. We can set up the record player! I’ll know where my brown sweater is! And we can start a family, hopefully sooner rather than later, and establish our own traditions.”
Ronda Rousey & Travis Browne
UFC athlete Ronda Rousey and her love, Travis Browne, wasted no time between engagement and wedding. Browne proposed to Rousey to marry him while on a waterfall hike in New Zealand in April; by the end of August, the pair were wed in a backyard wedding in Hawaii. “What an amazing day!!” Browne wrote on Instagram. “She is so perfect in every way! She makes me so happy! She is my other half! I Love You @rondarousey #browsey2017.”
Kate Mara & Jamie Bell
The Fantastic duo! Fantastic Four costars Kate Mara and Jamie Bell confirmed their engagement to The Knot in January after just under two years of dating. Not six months later, in July, the pair were already calling each other husband and wife following a Los Angeles wedding. Both Mara and Bell took to social media to share the first photo from their wedding—a hazy-but-ethereal shot of themselves kissing. “Nuptials,” the bride captioned the photo.
Brie Larson & Alex Greenwald
Brie Larson had quite the year, starting with a Golden Globe and an Academy Award win in January and February, and peaking with an engagement to singer Alex Greenwald in the spring. The Room star showed off a diamond sparkler on her finger while hosting Saturday Night Live in early May. The pair had been dating since 2013.
Patton Oswalt & Meredith Salenger
After just over a year of dating, Patton Oswalt proposed to girlfriend Meredith Salenger in early July, and the duo couldn’t help counting their lucky stars for having found one another. “It’s official. I’m the luckiest happiest girl in the universe!!!!” Salenger captioned two images on Instagram, one of her and Oswalt and one of her with Oswalt’s young daughter Alice. “I love you @pattonoswalt I love you Alice Oswalt! #YesYesYes.”
Janel Parrish & Chris Long
The Pretty Little Liars star got engaged to boyfriend Chris Long in October, and the actress shared the happy news in a very stylish way. “Went to the park for a stroll with Klee and came back with a fiancé,” she captioned a snapshot of the pair smooching, her cushion cut solitaire diamond prominent in the photo. “I get to marry my best friend and I’m over the moon. I love you @c_long.”
Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas
This Game of Thrones star just found herself a Jonas husband! Turner and Joe Jonas announced their engagement in mid-October after a whirlwind romance that was rumored to kick off sometime last fall. “I said yes,” she captioned a simple, dramatic shot of her hands clasped over Jonas’, set against a dark backdrop with her pear-shaped diamond on display. Jonas later confirmed the engagement with his own post: “She said yes.”
Nikki Bella & John Cena
When Nikki Bella’s beau, fellow wrestler John Cena, got down on one knee and asked her to be his forever in April, he did so with something even flashier than a wrestling championship belt: a nearly 5-carat Tiffany & Co. diamond engagement ring. The WWE champ was stunned by the surprise proposal, and said so during an interview on the Today show the next day. “I never would have thought that he would have proposed in front of all those people,” she said. “But that’s home for us. WWE is our home.”
Tori Kelly & André Murillo
The only thing bigger than Tori Kelly’s voice this year was the impressive sparkler that her love, basketball player André Murillo, gifted her in September. The singer and her love kept their relationship quiet for the near-year that they dated, but in an adorable Instagram post in September, Kelly could hardly contain her giddiness. “I love you,” she captioned a black-and-white photo of the pair that featured her ring front and center.
Maren Morris & Ryan Hurd
Country singer Maren Morris got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Hurd, in July, and just like their love, her stunning ring was created with plenty of thought and love. “I know what she likes and I had somebody in Canada put it together,” Hurd told People. “The stone is from New York City, it’s from an uncut diamond, and then the rest of it’s cast just custom for her. I couldn’t just buy something. I had to make it something that fit her.”
Michelle Branch & Patrick Carney
Love is “Everywhere”! Michelle Branch and the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney got engaged in the most timely fashion possible: on the eve of Branch’s 34th birthday. The singer-songwriter shared an Instagram post of her stunning bauble in July, telling fans that Carney popped the question right before she was about to blow out the candles on her birthday cake. “Patrick asked me to marry him and then I had nothing left to wish for,” she wrote.
Emily VanCamp & Josh Bowman
That’s Mrs. Bowman-to-be to you. Emily VanCamp and her beau of five years, Revenge costar Josh Bowman, got engaged this past May in what the actress calls a “beautiful” moment. “He did good,” the future bride told Entertainment Tonight during Fox’s Upfronts in early May. “It was in a forest. We were in nature on a hike kind of doing what we do. It was very us… It was great. Beautiful.”
Eliza Dushku & Peter Palandijian
The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress surprised fans in June when she announced that she was engaged to her love, businessman Peter Palandjian. “YES!! Absolutely, my love,” she captioned a sweet photo of the pair looking ecstatic post-proposal.
Kirsten Dunst & Jesse Plemons
Kirsten Dunst excitedly showed off a stunning oval-cut diamond on her ring finger in January at the Ralph & Russo Haute Couture Spring Summer 2017 show, comparing rings with her front-row seatmate, Arizona Muse. She and beau Jesse Plemons got engaged over the holidays, and Dunst later revealed on Live With Kelly and Ryan that Plemons had proposed when she was sick and in sweatpants.
Felicity Jones & Charles Guard
In May, news broke that Felicity Jones and her boyfriend of two years, British director Charles Guard, were set to be married. The actress, who largely kept her relationship with Guard out of the public eye, couldn’t exactly hide her stunning engagement ring, however. In June, the sparkler stole the spotlight when she walked the red carpet at Glamour UK’s Women of the Year Awards in London.
Holly Marie Combs & Mike
The former Charmed actress didn’t need too many words to caption an eye-popping image of her engagement ring that she shared to Instagram in September. “Yes. Just yes,” she captioned the photo of her large marquise-cut diamond ring set with tiny diamonds surrounding the main stone.
Rose Leslie & Kit Harington
Perfectly imperfect! Rose Leslie got engaged to her former Game of Thrones costar Kit Harington this past fall, but it didn’t go down exactly the way Harington had planned it. “I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff, but we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky, and had a log fire burning and red wine,” the actor told British TV host Jonathan Ross. “And I blew my load early. … Sorry, that’s a really bad expression.”
Keleigh Sperry & Miles Teller
Miles Teller did good! The actor’s girlfriend of more than four years shared a few stunning photos following his romantic proposal in Africa, and we can’t stop staring at her sparkling emerald-cut stone set in a band of smaller pave stones. Of the best advice his grandparents ever gave him about marriage, Teller told Elle back in 2014, “Respect the person you’re with. My philosophy is, if I’m not happier when I’m with you, then there’s no reason for me to be with you. I’m happy on my own.”
Christina Perri & Paul Costabile
Singer Christina Perri gushed about her engagement to boyfriend Paul Costabile in June, and it’s not hard to see why. Perri showed off a unique round-cut diamond with an angular silver band with the sweet and simple caption, “paul asked me to marry him tonight & i said yes!” The pair then got married in early December.
