For better or for worse. Many wedding day memories were made when some of Hollywood’s hottest couples made their unions official in 2016, and a few celebrity brides proved their ability to improvise when faced with matrimonial mishaps. Here, The Knot recalls some of the year’s most memorable wedding day mishaps, and how the stars handled it like pros.
There’s no doubt that these newlyweds carry a flame for one another, and when Johnson’s dress caught fire on their July 31 wedding day, the lovebirds weren’t phased by the blaze.
The bride’s Monique Lhuillier gown brushed against a candle as she walked down the aisle. “All of a sudden we smelled something,” Herjavec recalled in a post-ceremony interview with People. “Then we looked and her dress was on fire!”
Johnson’s best friend acted quickly to stomp out the flame, and thankfully the rest of the Los Angeles ceremony went off without a hitch. During the reception, the bride surprised her new husband with Croatian dancers, and Herjavec shocked his love with a live performance by music icon Olivia Newton John.
When this blushing bride made her way to her groom in Hawaii on her November 5 wedding day, she realized her train and veil were catching on the pole-lined aisle.
Patridge didn’t let the wardrobe malfunction put a damper on her special day. “I kept moving forward with a smile on my face until [my veil] came off!!” she explained in a blog post. “I continued walking until some very generous friends ran up behind me to secure it back on my head. LOL — sometimes you have to roll with the punches!”
Surrounded by her closest friends and family, the bride felt at-ease. “I was so nervous,” she shared, “but as soon as I saw all of our friends, family and Corey, all I could feel was happiness and love everywhere.”
During their camp-themed nuptials in Southern California on December 10, this famous duo went with the flow when faced with a pre-wedding glitch.
As Adams drove guests to the outdoor ceremony in a white school bus, the vehicle got stuck in the mud. Luckily, the groom had plenty of help pushing the bus, which had an “Almost Married” sign on the back.
The minor setback didn’t ruin the three-day wedding weekend. “I can truly say that I have never had a more beautiful or happier three days in my life, but what’s more incredible than that was that right in the middle of it I married my best friend,” Bellisario gushed after becoming a bride.
