You may now swim your way into marriage. Every year for its Haute Couture show, Chanel sends one or two models out in a resplendent wedding dress to close out the typically over-the-top festivities. This year was particularly memorable after Karl Lagerfeld’s team tapped model Vitto Ceretti to wear a bridal swimsuit for the closing moment.
The runway show itself, staged at the famed Grand Palais in Paris, was transformed into an Italian villa that included a romantic, 18th century garden featuring evergreen Tuscan cypress trees and palm trees against a pool.
Ceretti, the chosen model for the closing moments of the French fashion house’s Haute Couture Spring 2019 collection show, stepped out in a glamorous, beaded and embellished one-piece swimsuit featuring side cut-outs. Lagerfeld, though missing from his presentation, added a matching swimcap attached to a cathedral-length veil comprised of shimmer and tulle.
The brand described the embroidered bathing suit as “a summer take on an Haute Couture wedding dress.”

I just had the honor to walk this Chanel couture show as the bride . I’ve waited for this moment for a long time and I couldn’t be any happier with this beautiful dress. Grazie to everyone who made this possible and worked so hard to make it happen @chanelofficial @karllagerfeld @aurelieduclos #VirginieViard @luciapicaofficial @sammcknight1
While some commenters were torn over the piece, celebrity ambassadors like Kristen Stewart raved about the refreshing choice.
“Imagine getting married in that, it is the most baller move,” the Twilight actress told Women’s Wear Daily. “That is a real power move; you’re stating your stance right off the bat: This is the woman who you’re marrying, just so you know.”
