It’s a year of love for the Cubs. MLB player Anthony Rizzo, who won the 2016 World Series as first baseman of the Chicago Cubs, is taken. The baseball player announced his engagement to girlfriend Emily Vakos via social media on Thursday, June 1, alongside photos from the sweet proposal.
“Wow!” Rizzo wrote on Instagram. “Soon to be Mr. And Mrs. Rizzo.”
The athlete came prepared, hiring a professional photographer to document the moment. He also scouted a gorgeous location, popping the question on Lake Michigan at sunset with the city skyline in the backdrop.
“Luckiest guy in the world! She said YES. Future Mr. & Mrs. Rizzo,” he added on Twitter. Accompanying photos show the newly-engaged couple beaming as Vakos proudly holds up her new ring.
Rizzo already has quite the sparkler of his own after winning a World Series ring last fall. While his piece features 108 diamonds, the baseball player’s rock for his future wife was one beautiful diamond.
Following the revelation, Rizzo received a deluge of congratulatory tweets and messages from his fellow World Series winners, including Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. Interestingly enough, Bryant married his high school sweetheart, Jessica Delp, last January at the JW Marriott Las Vegas.
