Chinese diver Qin Kai made a splash at the 2016 Summer Olympics when he got down on one knee after his girlfriend He Zi‘s medal ceremony and asked her to be his wife.
Zi, 25, had just won a silver medal for the women’s 3 meter springboard event in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, August 14, when her boyfriend popped the question. “I didn’t know he would propose today,” she said after getting engaged.
Kai, 30, won bronze in the men’s 3 meter synchronized springboard last week. The athletic duo has been dating for six years, according to Time.
“He said a lot of things there at the podium,” the bride-to-be recalled following the proposal. “He made a lot of promises, but the thing that has touched me the most is that I think this is the guy I can trust for the rest of my life.”
There’s so much love at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Brazilian rugby player, Isadora Cerullo, received a surprise marriage proposal from her longtime love, Marjorie Enya, after the rugby sevens final last week. With nearly a week left of the Summer Games, we can’t help but wonder if there are more romantic surprises to come.
