He felt the wrath of Bachelor Nation. After ABC officially revealed that Rachel Lindsay is the new Bachelorette, longtime Bachelor host, Chris Harrison, took to Instagram to apologize to fans for spoiling the current season of The Bachelor.

“I’m sorry about the timing” Harrison expressed on Valentine’s Day, alongside a photo of himself with the next lead. “I hate that anything was ruined for #BachelorNation but I’m incredibly excited that @therachlindsay is our new #TheBachelorette.”

He then went on to sing Lindsay’s praises, calling her “a smart, strong, independent Texan who loves her @dallascowboys.” Harrison added, “What more could a man want?”

Dallas-based attorney Lindsay is still in the running on Nick Viall’s current season 21 of The Bachelor. Producers broke from the usual format of announcing the next season’s lead after the finale, which upset many devoted viewers on Monday.

Lindsay, however, is the first-ever black lead to be featured in the franchise’s 15-year history, and has immense support from both viewers and show execs alike.

And her ex. Viall took to social media shortly after the announcement on Monday to congratulate the Texas native on her new role. “Bachelor Nation doesn’t know how it all goes down yet, but as you’ll surely see saying goodbye to Rachel was one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have met very few people who possess as much beauty, grace, and charisma as Rachel and after hearing that she’ll be the next Bachelorette I couldn’t be more excited.”

She is an accomplished, confident and beautiful woman who knows what she wants in life. We all look forward to joining her on the joyous journey as she looks for that one special man.”
