Dress designer Zac Posen created a shimmering, sleeveless light blue gown for the Homeland actress which turned Danes, even before seeing it glow, into a modern day Cinderella. Filling his Instagram account with images and video of the gown, Posen first called his design “celestial grandeur,” reminding us of Danes’ role as a fallen star in the 2007 film Stardust.
Posen lined the dress in fiber optics, allowing light to escape from within the gown, highlighting its glimmering full skirt, train, and the boning on the dress’ corset-style bodice. No sooner did her dress turn on did women everywhere swoon over the glowing gown; the perfect wedding dress kissed by a fairy godmother’s magic wand.
Later the designer, who has been friends with Danes for almost 20 years, showed off the detailed fiber optic light work within the “starry night” illuminated dress with a video of Danes spinning its full skirt, being careful not to reveal it was Danes who would wear the gown at the Met Gala.

Danes stepped out in the light-up Cinderella style ballgown on Monday, May 2 for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, kicking off this year’s exhibit “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” a theme that carried through many celebrities fashions, including Claire Danes’ glowing Zac Posen gown!
