In Case You Didn’t Know. Country singer Brett Young is engaged to Taylor Mills, he announced Monday, February 26.

The hitmaker behind “Mercy” shared the news with People magazine alongside a photo of his fiancee’s sparkling new ring. “We are both more excited than we can express,” the couple expressed, “and looking forward to starting this chapter of our lives together.”

The pair first met in Scottsdale, Arizona, more than a decade ago while Mills was still a student at the Arizona State University. They initially dated for six years, but took a break after Young’s career took off and he eventually moved to Nashville.

“I wrote a lot of my first record about her,” the singer explained of their break. “There was never any bad blood; it was just the wrong time for us. We recently got back in touch and realized that we were both finally in the same place and knew it was right.”

The singer proposed during a trip to Oxford, Mississippi, right off the campus of his college alma mater Ole Miss. Young dropped down to one knee with a dazzling ring that he had custom designed with jeweler David Kodner of David Kodner Personal Jewelers in St. Louis. The piece is engraved with the couple’s initials.

“Brett and I were introduced by our mutual friend Sean Lashley of FleishmanHillard Entertainment,” Kodner tells The Knot. “We have been working for months to create a one-of-a-kind ring for his fiancé. Finding something that was special and unique to just he and Taylor was very important to me and to Brett. I suggested we utilize their initials–playing off Brett’s logo on his website and album. We created a mock-up on the computer to see how it would look. The ring was then hand fabricated and all of the pave diamonds were placed individually by hand.”

The center diamond is a cushion-cut stone weighing a little over 4 carats. The band itself includes smaller pave diamonds totaling over 1-carat.
