On September 25, Mary Anne Purdy, 57 and John Romani, 61, kicked off their McDonalds sponsored wedding with a ride down a 46 foot tall, McDonalds Giant Slide at The Big E.

According to the McDonalds Newsroom, Purdy and Romani won “The Big E McNuptials” Facebook contest, took to the famous New England fair the Eastern States Exposition (AKA The Big E), and recited their vows atop the McDonalds Giant Slide before launching themselves down the  on burlap sacks as husband and wife.

The Western Massachusetts owner/operators of the slide hosted the wedding along with the slide’s sponsor, McDonalds. The lucky bride and groom were gifted with an incredible slide-shaped wedding cake complete with cake toppers at the top of the attraction, and a special guest appearance by none other than Ronald McDonald himself!

“We thrilled for Mary Anne and John to be married at the McDonald’s giant slide. It’s great that they are willing to share this occasion with all of us and we want to give them a memorable and fun experience,” said Scott Taylor, of McDonalds, said in a prepared statement according to MassLive.

Answering the question “Why are you the perfect pair to be married at the giant slide?” the newlyweds captured the judges affection and the grand prize over roughly 20 other couples with their winning entry seen below, reported the McDonalds Newsroom.

“John & I have been together since 2008. Our plan was to get married in 6 yrs, but we keep putting it off. This will be John’s first wedding at 61 and my second. I say let’s reach BEYOND our comfort zone, have fun and go for this! We have recently moved to our “retirement” home, now let’s tie the knot and make it official. No “clowning” around! Last yr. coincidentally 9/25/14 was our 1st trip to the Big E as a couple and we had a blast sliding down the Giant Slide and filling our faces! The time is right for us! John’s bucket list consists of 2 things: (1) to marry me and (2) to travel to Oklahoma for a twister. I don’t have a bucket list yet, but I can’t think of a better time 9/25/15 – a better person (I love you John) or a better place than the Giant Slide at the Big E with Ronald McDonald (AND FRIENDS) TO HAVE A BLAST OF A WEDDING FOR John & Mary Anne. Time doesn’t stand still so let’s get married!”

According to The Big E McNuptials contest website, the couple also received “two complimentary nights at a premier hotel, limousine transportation, a customized guest book, champagne toast,” and an array of red and yellow “decorations, party favors, [and] flowers,” along with their “specialty McDonald’s wedding cake.”

Purdy and Romani will also be invited back next year to “celebrate Eastern States Exposition’s centennial” after receiving free value passes and a $250 McDonald’s gift card.

This unique McDonalds wedding and a ride down a giant slide may not be your ideal way to say “I do,” but we’re lovin’ it.
