What a purr-fect way to entertain guests. A Seattle-based couple, who shares a love of cats, personalized their wedding with a particularly cute twist. Instead of hosting a typical cocktail hour at their wedding, the couple opted for a “kitten hour,” where they had guests cuddle with six adorable kittens from a local animal shelter.
The couple’s photographer Kendall Shea captured adorable images of the pair and their beloved guests snuggling with kittens prior to their Quaker ceremony. “Colleen and Iz had the perfect social hour for their community,” Shea tells The Knot. “While some folks were snuggling kittens, others were gathered around a table to craft flower crowns to wear all day. Everyone was full of joy, as they were passing the kittens around.”
The decision to personalize that moment was two-fold. “We love our cats very much, and wanted to bring a little of their spirit to the celebration,” Colleen told BuzzFeed News. “We wanted guests to have something to do during the family picturing taking time, and were too broke to have a cocktail hour.”
The pair of five years later made a donation to the shelter and added a charitable component to their wedding registry, requesting checks be made out to that same shelter in lieu of gifts. Overall, the one-hour component was a huge success.
“Everyone melted when these cuties [were brought in],” Shea tells us. “I’m thrilled that they were all adopted, and I hope that the attention of their kitten hour helps other cats of all ages find their forever homes.”
Shea says there was, ultimately, one particular challenge. “The biggest for me was not getting to snuggle all the kittens myself,” she concludes. Thankfully, she says, “a guest held my camera for a moment and snapped a photo of me with one of the kittens.”
