It’s time to don your best black (or midnight blue) pinstripes and mourn the loss of former New York Yankee Derek Jeter’s bachelor status. Though Jeter offered up “no comment” about engagement rumors at a Long Island Association luncheon one week ago, the baseball bachelor confirmed his engagement to supermodel Hannah Davis – we think – by sneaking the story into an essay about his dog.

In the essay titled Kane posted on Jeter’s website The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday, October 3, readers were introduced to Kane, an almost 100-pound, 1-year-old Italian mastiff who was a “gift last year from my fiancee,” Jeter wrote.

Though Jeter, 41, never confirms the name of his mysterious puppy-gifting fiancee, Hannah Davis, 25, has been the baseball All Star’s main squeeze for some time now.

This new development comes after Jeter shared his desire to keep his private life under wraps during a Q & A session for the Long Island Association on Wednesday, October 28.

“I don’t talk about it because I think some things you have to keep close to yourself,” he said when questions about the engagement rumors were asked at the luncheon last Wednesday, “Some things are sacred. So, I’ve never addressed anything in my private life.”

At the end of the essay Jeter writes, “Being a ‘dog owner’ is still new to me. A little challenge is probably good. I guess it’s possible to learn new tricks.” Looks like he’s going to be learning how to plan a wedding and become a husband soon too!
