Even then, the Middleton sisters were carving out their rightful spots in the wedding space.
New, never-before-seen footage of young Pippa Middleton and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton surfaced this weekend, and it shows the sisters serving as bridesmaids in their uncle’s 1991 wedding.
The video, first obtained by the Daily Mail, shows the girls—then 9 and 7—wearing sweet, pastel-pink frocks complete with puffy, ruffled sleeves. The girls artfully accessorized their matching dresses with flower crowns and shy smiles as they joined their uncle Gary Goldsmith in the backyard countryside ceremony.
Naturally, The Knot editors are now reminiscing about the 2011 Royal Wedding while anticipating Pippa’s upcoming nuptials to James Matthews.
The event planner first became a household name after serving as maid of honor in her sister’s April 2011 nuptials to Prince William. At the time, both bride and bridesmaid wore figure-flattering, white gowns by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Five years after the spectacular affair, Pippa announced in 2016 that she’s engaged to British financier James Matthews. “Miss Pippa Middleton and Mr. James Matthews are delighted to announce they became engaged on Sunday, July 17,” they shared at the time. “And plan to marry next year.”
An insider subsequently shared with Us Weekly that the couple has arranged for Duchess Kate and Prince William’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, to be one of the flower girls. The couple will marry in May 2017.
