Emily Blunt’s destination wedding to John Krasinski (and subsequent marriage!) is what one might call #goals, but according to the A Quiet Place 2 actress, there was still one thing about their July 2010 nuptials that she would change if she could.
“I got a bad spray tan and I would probably change that,” she told James Corden on The Late Late Show on Wednesday, March 11. “I think—I look at the pictures and it just has an orange hue that is unnatural to normal skin color.”
Blunt revealed that she had tried to go the DIY route, and it was ultimately the wrong call. “It was a do-it-yourself [kit],” she said. “Why was I on a budget on my wedding day? Why? It was a bit patchy. It stinks! And it was a very hot day, so if you sweat and you have a spray tan—wearing white. Just seeping orange. It was terrible.”
Luckily, despite the spray tan mishap, Blunt and Krasinski had a beautiful private ceremony with close family and friends at pal George Clooney’s home in Lake Como, Italy, and have had a model marriage ever since. They welcomed daughter Hazel in 2014 and daughter Violet in 2016, and will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary this July.
The couple have both been outspoken about their love and admiration for one another; in a 2018 interview with E! News, Blunt said that the reason why their marriage works is that they “really trust each other.”
“We’re very honest with each other,” she said at the time. “We sort of have a short hand and secret language that ultimately is gonna work for us.”
The actress, who collaborated with her husband for his film A Quiet Place back in 2018, added that the pair also delight in working together on-set as well, which has only strengthened their relationship.
“My favorite thing about shooting A Quiet Place for sure was working with John,” she said, adding that they were both warned that working so closely together could end up in misery or even divorce. Neither happened.
“You don’t know how your two processes are going to work together,” she said. “It’s like a different thing when you’re at work. You take on a different persona. I’m a huge fan of him, obviously. But we quickly realized how collaborative we were together and we actually worked really, really well together.”
Krasinski, for his part, has been a big fan of Blunt’s for quite a while, and knew that he wanted to marry Blunt one day shortly after meeting her.
“I mean, I don’t know who meets Emily Blunt and doesn’t hope that you get to become her husband,” he told Entertainment Tonight back in 2018. “So, that was pretty immediate for me.”
“My parents have been happily married for many, many years and truly feel like they’re more in love today than they were the day they met,” he added. “Marriage has always been an incredibly sacred thing that you’re hoping gets to come your way and something where you get to share happiness with someone else, so I’ve always respected the idea of marriage and wanted to get married.”
Still, the Office alum remains realistic about the challenges that can sometimes accompany the joys of working so closely together, or even just of being two bold-faced names constantly in the media spotlight.
“I will say it’s tough,” he said. “It’s a big commitment and it’s hard to look at these different people through that lens, because it’s an intense lens to put anybody under. But Emily, through any lens is someone that you just pinch yourself that you even get to be around her, let alone married to her.”
A Quiet Place 2 marks the couple’s second on-screen collaboration.
