As two beloved and acclaimed country music stars in their own right, Carly Pearce and Michael Ray’s upcoming wedding naturally has fans wondering: what will their music situation be like?

As Pearce, 28, and Ray, 30, previously told The Knot, the couple, who got engaged last December, are most likely looking to get hitched in Nashville this fall. And though they’re hoping to keep their guest list to just close family and friends — “very intimate, very special, small wedding,” Pearce told us — that doesn’t mean that they’ll be skimping on the music selections.

For starters, both Pearce and Ray admit that their love story has heavily influenced their songwriting over the last few months. Could this be a hint that they may play or even perform their own songs at the reception?

“She’s changed the way that I write songs for sure,” Ray tells us. “I mean, I’m writing more love songs than ever and I think that’s the cool part of being in my position as an artist and a writer: we get to take our fans on this journey with us, and our fans are going through the same thing we’re going through.”

His latest single, “Dancing Forever,” has in fact changed in meaning since he began dating Carly back in the summer of 2018. Originally, he said, the song made him think about his family and about all the support that they’ve given him to pursue his dreams.

“As I listened to it more, I liked it more, and I just thought, ‘This is a wedding song,’” he says. “I thought of my little sister and my dad, the father-daughter dance, and with us … just knowing that you want somebody’s dreams just as bad as you want your own. … The song’s just kind of changed as my life has changed, honestly. The song was what I thought would be an ode to my family, for being in my corner and just wanting me to dream big and [then became about] my little sister and my dad, [then] to me watching Carly and just seeing her shine. It’s kind of changed as the meaning of my life has changed.”

As for Pearce, her latest single, “Closer to You,” was definitely about Ray, and even featured the country singer in her music video. “It’s all about falling in love, and it’s a total love song,” she says. “I feel like both of us waited for the right person and I want to make people understand that when you’re going through something difficult or if love isn’t in your future, you never know. You may even be walking around with that person.”

Pearce says with a laugh, “I have looked at Michael Ray very many times before this and never in a million years thought that he was my future husband.”

Pearce and Ray got engaged in Tulum, Mexico, last December, shortly before the holidays, while on vacation with her parents.

“We do so much in our life that is so public,” Ray tells The Knot. “And knowing that this would end up public, I just thought two things: one, I want it to be her moment, where it was all about her, and two, I also wanted because of that for it to be her, her mom, and her dad together.”
