There she goes… another Mrs. America! Savvy Shields, who was crowned Miss America 2017 close to two years ago, is officially married to fiancé Nate Wolfe.
The couple wed Saturday, July 28, before 250 guests in Bentonville, Arkansas. “I just married my best friend and my soul-Nate,” Shields tells The Knot in her exclusive wedding announcement. “It was magical, dreamy and perfect.”
The couple first met at a wedding a little over three years ago. “He was a groomsman, and I remember he walked out and I asked my friend beside me, ‘Who is that?’” she recalls. “She was amazed I didn’t already know him.” (Both parties had attended the University of Arkansas, though by then, Wolfe was in law school at Georgetown.) “I remember dancing and flipping my hair to get his attention, but nothing seemed to be working. Finally, I walked up to him and said, ‘Hey, I don’t think I’ve met you yet. I’m Savvy.’”
Wolfe proposed in 2017, and the pair dove into wedding planning with the help of the mother of the bride, Karen Shields. “In all the prep and planning for Miss America, I honestly thought a wedding would be a breeze due to the intensity of the pageant,” the bride reflects.
Eventually, they hired wedding planner Amanda Reed. “It’s important if you do hire a planner, to get someone you’re comfortable with,” notes Shields, who worked closely with Reed to build out her “artistic and modern” wedding aesthetic.
The ceremony and reception were both held at the Record in downtown Bentonville. “I wanted the ceremony to feel like a dream,” says Shields, “and for the reception to feel like an elegant affair-meets-a house party.” Hickenlooper Photo documented the special day.
