When Queer Eye’s culture expert Karamo Brown marries director Ian Jordan in October 2020, his remaining four colleagues in the Fab Five will be on the side… as guests.
“I don’t want them to help me plan,” Brown tells The Knot. “And it’s because our jobs are about helping people.” Indeed, the premise of the show is centered on all five experts (Bobby Berk, Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness and Brown) touching the lives of random strangers through the lens of culture, food, fashion and so much more.
In fact, they even helped orchestrate a proposal in one episode of the second season of Netflix’s reboot of Queer Eye. “I was the one helping the guy to figure out why it took him so long,” Brown recalls of the episode. “Bobby was planning. Tan was doing the outfit.” Porowski, meanwhile, is the food expert and Van Ness is the grooming guru on the series. All play integral roles in helping improve the lives of featured show guests.
However they will set their roles aside when Brown weds Jordan on 10/10/20 at the Merv Griffin Estate in Palm Springs, California. “That whole weekend, I want them to come and celebrate… I truly fell in love with all four of them,” Brown says. “We are truly best friends and a lot of people think it’s a joke—how we interact on social media—but we are so close. I don’t want them to work. It’s one hundred percent real. I don’t want them working that day.”
Instead, he has one ask for his fellow castmates. “I want them to come and celebrate,” he adds.
The same held true when Brown was planning to propose to Jordan on the director’s 40th birthday. “Even when I was doing my engagement party, they kept offering help,” he recalls. “And I was like, ‘No.’ The only person who helped was Bobby, because he helped me decorate the space. I was like, ‘Can you get me a discount on florists and things?’”
While Brown is several years away from walking down the aisle, he’s positive about one planning facet. “Incorporating family and tradition is really big for me,” he concludes. “If it wasn’t for four generations back having the courage to love and to live, we wouldn’t be here celebrating our love?”
