Move over, Mr. Grey, because E.L. James, the author behind bestselling series Fifty Shades of Grey, has a new book in the works. The bestselling scribe announced the news of her upcoming book release entitled The Mister on the Today show Thursday, January 24, along with the premise of her latest work.

The new main characters in this story are Maxim Trevelyan and Alessia Demachi, with the setting falling between London, Cornwall (a scenic region along the English coastal countryside), and the Balkans (think, Croatia and Greece).

Trevelyan is described as a “privileged and aristocratic” man who meets London transplant Demachi. James described her novel as a “Cinderella story for the 21st Century,” though it will likely be a romantic, BDSM version of whatever that entails.

Of course James catapulted to literary fame after releasing her smash, erotic Fifty Shades series, which was eventually translated into a blockbuster film franchise with Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan as billionaire Christian Grey. The trilogy ended with a wedding and a honeymoon that The Knot covered extensively with the final film’s release in 2018.

“I think the most important aspect were the vows,” James previously told us in an exclusive interview. “I didn’t cover the wedding within the book, and I did get a bit of a hard time about that. It was something I didn’t think it was necessary, but it was important for the movie that we saw perspective for how beautiful it could be.”

In the same interview, James also shared her best advice for recently-married couples. “Listen to each other, and really listen to each other,” she mused. “As you do. It’s important to be tolerant as well. One of the things I love about Ana is her compassion for this man. And I think that’s important. To bring those elements of tolerance into marriage is very important. Communication is the primary thing. Just listen, be kind to each other, and just listen.”

The Mister is out in April. Watch her tease the book on the Today show above and secure your ideal wedding vision by starting with The Knot’s Style Quiz, here.
