Cue the Friends theme song and get down to the Central Perk! Fans of the popular NBC sitcom are about to be hit with a wave of welcome nostalgia. Bride-to-be Sana Seeham Khan may be Friends‘ biggest fan. Knowing this, her sister Shamain, along with the future bride’s friend Michelle, planned and pulled-off an epic bridal shower. Following the Friends-themed shower, The Knot caught up with Shamain. Although the show’s finale aired more than a decade ago, it seems like only yesterday…
“The shower was on Saturday, April 30,” Shamain shares with us. “It was actually held at my house. My sister knew about the theme, but all the decor was completely a surprise! She seemed to be a little taken aback [with] all the decor, from the signs [and] flowers to the food. I don’t think she knew what to expect!”
Shamain stood in as photographer during the Friends-themed shower. She caught some amazing shots, sparing not even the tiniest of details. She tells us, though, that some elements just couldn’t be captured on-camera. For instance, the Friends theme song was playing when the future bride walked through the door. “[It] was super cute,” Shamain recalls, “because she had no idea that one of her best friends, Misha, was in town for the bridal shower. So as soon as they saw each other, they went and hugged each other! It was like a scene from the [show],” she laughs. “We also played a game around the show which was called, ‘The One With All the Weddings.’
Shamain and Michelle had the guests split into teams. Each team answered some “tough questions” about the Friends episodes that featured weddings. “Of course the bride’s team won,” Shamain tells The Knot.
“The most memorable part of the day was probably seeing every one’s reactions [to] how everything turned out – especially the bride’s,” she shares.
“I think my favorite pictures were just capturing those little details,” Shamain tells us, “such as Phoebe’s guitar with the sign that says, ‘Phoebe will be back in 5.'”
The hosts incorporated several dishes that were featured on Friends throughout its 10 unforgettable seasons. “Like Phoebe’s secret recipe cookies, and that time Rachel made a trifle with beef,” Shamain recalls. “Everyone thought it was so funny. We got a chance to sit there and laugh about all those episodes.”
Sana’s wedding is coming up this summer. Shamain says the bride-to-be plans to incorporate Friends elements, but she’s not sure just how yet. The popularity of the shower photos has taken her by surprise. “I’m literally shocked [at] just how much attention this bridal shower has received,” she admits. “I mean we’re all kind of just enjoying our 15 minutes of fame while wondering how a bridal shower could become this huge,” she laughs. “But I’m so glad it did, because we put so much time and effort [into] planning everything. It’s very humbling to see how people have responded!”
We can’t wait to see the wedding photos! Could the bride and groom share their first dance as husband and wife to Chandler and Phoebe’s rendition of “Endless Love?” Time will tell!
