Jon Snow knows something! Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington is engaged to his former co-star Rose Leslie, multiple outlets reported Tuesday, September 26.
The Sun first reported the story, and People confirmed the news several hours later through a source.
Harington and Leslie first met on the set of HBO’s Game of Thrones, where their on-screen romance overflowed and blossomed into an actual relationship. The couple dated for five years before he popped the question.
The actor opened up about falling for Leslie while shooting scenes in Iceland for the second season of the smash fantasy series. “Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” Harington previously told L’Uomo Vogue. “If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”
Leslie looked back fondly at that same time period in a 2016 interview with the Telegraph. “It was the winter months, so we only had from 10am to 2.30pm to film before we’d lose light. We were in the middle of a glacier,” she said. “It’s a really, really stunning place and we saw the Northern Lights, which was extraordinary. I’ve never before been somewhere so vast and magic. And I’m Scottish, so I have an affinity with cold, crisp days.”
The stars, though largely private about their romance, have made sweet statements about each other in interviews. Leslie told the paper in the same interview that she was “very happy” with her beau, while describing him as “a great man.” She added, “I’m very proud of him. There’s an understanding that comes with the job, an understanding of being busy and when you have to say ‘Sorry, I’m just going to bugger off for two months to film.’”
While Harington remains a central cast member, Leslie’s GoT character, Ygritte, was killed off in season 4.
