It’s parents’ night out. George and Amal Clooney, co-hosts of the 2018 Met Gala, were among the first guests to walk the star-studded red carpet lining the iconic stairway of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 7.
The proud parents of twins Ella and Alexander left their little ones at home for their co-hosting duties at the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination-themed fete—but the A-list actor jokingly referred to the kids on the red carpet saying they were “hiding underneath” his wife’s massive skirt.
Amal nodded to both her legal-fueled business background with her glamorous life at the luxurious event by wearing a head-turning piece by Richard Quinn. The outfit, which was baselined with a pair of navy pants, was topped by a metallic strapless, corseted piece that was attached with an elaborate floral skirt.

George, meanwhile, was more traditional in his outfit selection, wearing a black tuxedo—though he did his part by stepping aside to give his wife her moment.
In time for the annual Met Gala, Amal made her first appearance on the cover of Vogue. In the accompanying piece, the international human rights lawyer shared some insight about her love story with one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors.
“It felt like the most natural thing in the world,” she previously expressed of the romance. “Before that experience, I always hoped there could be love that was overwhelming and didn’t require any weighing or decision-making. It’s the one thing in life that I think is the biggest determinant of happiness, and it’s the thing you have the least control over. Are you going to meet this person? I was 35 when I met him. It wasn’t obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.”
