The Amazing Race winners Kelsey Gerckens and Joey Buttitta are engaged!
It’s an Amazing Race engagement for Gerckens, 25, and Buttitta, 26, who were dubbed “Dating Co-Workers and News Anchors” on the show. The couple won $1 million on the worldwide scavenger hunt and challenge series during the 27th season finale on Friday night and became engaged on Tuesday, December 15!
Gerckens and Buttitta were filming a special for the Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family on Tuesday, which aired the next day, discussing their time travelling 5 continents, 10 countries and tens of thousands of miles, but Buttitta had a little extra surprise in store for his travel partner.
When the hosts of Home & Family, Mark Steines and Cristina Ferrare, asked what Buttitta’s dream wedding look like, he opted to get the wedding planning started quickly by promptly pulling a ring from his suit jacket and dropping to one knee.
“Kelsey, I love you so much and we have run this amazing journey together,” he said, presenting the ring to his stunned girlfriend. “I love you, I can’t imagine being with anyone else. Will you marry me?”
Gerckens sat beautifully shocked in her seat, smiling at her boyfriend while he proposed, squeaked out a “Oh my gosh” and mouthed a “yes” to the sound of cheers from the audience, and the Amazing Race couple kiss.
Buttitta’s parents Joe and Terry and Gercken’s mother Sheryl and brother Chad, who had been seated in the audience, were invited up to the stage to congratulate their future in-laws. The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan was also there to celebrate with the bride and groom-to-be.
Not much else was said by the blushing bride-to-be Gerckens, as she was still in state of wonder staring at her new Kirk Kara diamond engagement ring. She did manage to repeat, “Oh my gosh!” a number of times before the segment came to a close!
Congratulations Kelsey and Joey on your incredible Amazing Race win and engagement!
Home & Family airs weekdays at 10 a.m. EST on Hallmark Channel.
