It’s official. Jane the Virgin’s breakout star Gina Rodriguez is engaged to Joe LoCicero, and the future bride confirmed it herself on Tuesday, August 7.
“I have a very, very special man in my life,” Rodriguez told Us Weekly. “I am engaged. You’re the first people that I’ve told.”
While exact proposal details remain under wraps, Rodriguez posted a photo of herself and her dazzling ring to mark her 34th birthday on July 30. The actress and LoCicero celebrated the occasion in Tulum, Mexico, and Rodriguez confirmed this week that the proposal itself was recent.
“It’s wonderful blessings like that, that make me realize that if I have an opportunity to help someone else, I want to,” she noted as she nodded to her work with Feeding America and Always by saying, “It’s the why I’m working days after my engagement.”
Rodriguez also praised her future husband for his support in every sense. “I am marrying a feminist,” she gushed. “I am marrying a man that is incredible and loving and understanding and kind and patient. I’m marrying a really incredible human being. That what it is. I met a human that like, knows he’s a human.”
The couple met on the set of Rodriguez’s CW series in 2016. Their relationship, however, didn’t turn romantic until they later randomly encountered each other at the gym. “It was serendipitous,” Rodriguez later said on Live with Kelly and Ryan.
