Gregory DelliCarpini Jr. has always loved “history and opulence,” so when it came time for him to exchange vows with the love of his life, clinical social worker Lorenzo Vinti, he knew it would have to be somewhere grand.
The blogger and social media influencer, 28, and Vinti, 35, had their eyes on Italy for a moment, but the destination wedding proved to be a logistical challenge since a lot of their family members are based in New York and have small children. In the end, however, the couple was able to find a location that merged the best of all worlds.
“I’ve always loved the history of the Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel,” DelliCarpini tells The Knot. “After talking with the events coordinator there and learning we would be the first same sex couple to be wed at the Oak Room—which used to be a men’s only club in the early 1900’s—I knew this was the place.”
The Oak Room, which first opened as The Men’s Bar in 1907, previously only permitted men to enjoy its over-the-top luxury. In the 1950s, however, the room had changed to become a hangout spot for the Hollywood elite, with Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe as notable guests.
“Now, in 2017, my fiancé and I participated in the first same sex wedding at The Oak Room, shattering old ideals of gender and sexism,” says DelliCarpini, the force behind Oyster Colored Velvet. Following the nuptials, the couple enjoyed a sunny honeymoon in Monaco and Provence, France, opting for stays at the Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo and the Terre Blanche Hotel.

The Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel proved to be the perfect space for DelliCarpini and Vinti to get married. Their wedding planners helped them to create a luxe feel for their 80 guests, with florists L’Atelier Rouge decorating the space that transported the couple and their loved ones “into a party Louis XIV would have thrown today.”
Carly Paige Witzurg, the owner of Denver-based boutique event firm Milk Glass Productions, is a close personal friend of DelliCarpini’s, and “an incredible wedding planner,” he tells The Knot. “She understood exactly what we were going for and made the day unfold seamlessly. She has impeccable taste and really helped keeping me calm. Carly is a rock star.”
DelliCarpini is a big fan of flowers, so he wanted to make sure they took center stage on the big day, he says. “I knew exactly what I wanted the look of the room to be, but just needed to find the perfect artist to execute my vision,” he says, praising L’Atelier Rouge for their fine work. “The astonishingly chic flower wall was an original and unique design that made the perfect backdrop as my now-husband and I exchanged our vows,” he says.
For their wedding cake, the couple worked with Ana Parzych Cakes to create the perfect celebratory confectionary.
The fun-loving couple danced to “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” for their first dance as husband and husband performed by their wedding band, Joelle & the Pinehurst Trio.
The couple worked with photographer Camila Gutierrez to capture their big day.
The Grooms’ Looks
As a social media influencer, DelliCarpini knew his look would have to be pitch-perfect. He donned a jacket by one of his favorite designers, Haider Ackermann, paired with black trousers, a white tuxedo shirt and an ivory bow tie all from J.Crew. His shoes?
“An amazing pair of teal silk Gucci slippers complete with red crystals,” he says. A pocket square with a tiny naked lady on it helped to round out DelliCarpini’s #OOTD.
The Wedding Party
The couple’s family played a big part in their wedding ceremony; DelliCarpini’s brother Michael served as his best man and his cousin, Victoria Ingenito, was his maid of honor. Both DelliCarpini and Vinti walked down the aisle with both their parents, and their one-year-old yellow lab Louis, named after Louis Armstrong, also made his way down the aisle alongside Vinti’s brother and best man, Davide. Their mutual friend Marie Assante, who had first introduced the pair, officiated.
